Question and Answer

Do Reality Check staff write the stories for each issue?

While a staff member may choose to write his/her story for a particular issue, almost all of the stories are written by our peers. The stories are unedited except for spelling and obscenities. In addition, we delete specific information that would identify the author.

Does the Reality Check staff know who wrote each story?

If you give your story to a staff member, they never share your identity unless it describes a mandated reporting situation (suicide, homicide, physical or sexual abuse); only then would your name be shared with the advisor, but never the rest of the student staff.

Can you only write a story if you are asked by a Reality Check staff member?

While a staff member may ask you to write a story, anyone can submit their story for any issue by submitting the Reality Check google form, email a staff member using their school email, or dm a staff member on Instagram.

Does the staff select which stories to publish?

We publish every personal experience story, whether it is about your own experience or how you have been affected by another's experience. One staff member reads the story aloud while the rest of the staff respectfully listens without commenting.

Is Reality Check unique to LGHS?

Yes! Reality Check is completely unique to Los Gatos High School. Other schools have your usual Link Crew, and other common Peer-to-Peer's, but Reality Check is a club completely exclusive to LGHS. All the more reason to take advantage of this opportunity if you want your voice to be heard.

Is it easy to get stories?

Since we are asking you to write about deeply personal and sometimes painful experiences, this is the most difficult part of being on staff. Our goal is to have at least twenty stories for each issue. With over 2,000 students at LGHS, we'd like to have more. Again, we hope you will consider writing for future issues.
